Purchase a Home

Financial Freedom comes from having cash flow to do what you want, when you want. Owning a home is one of the surest ways to build wealth. You may want to consider using your BAH to invest in yourself through home-ownership. Both officers and enlisted personnel have used this approach to reduce their tax burden, provide a house for their family, increase their net worth and choose where they would like to live rather than being told "where to live".

Home Loan Application Process

It's as simple as:

STEP 1) Print and complete a statement of service form. Note for veterans or prior service members: in lieu of a statement of service letter, we will need you to send us your DD-214.

STEP 2) Print and complete the request for certificate of Eligbility VA Form 1880

STEP 3) Complete the online pre-qualification form.

There are nearly 7000 units of family housing that include 2, 3, 4 and 5 bedroom units designated by rank and family size. Homes are located both on and off the installation. In our JNCO inventory, 2 bedrooms range from 930 to1,400 square feet, 3 bedrooms range from 1,255 to1,728 square feet, and 4 bedrooms range from 1,388 to1,950 square feet.

Waiting times vary according to the supply versus demand for quarters at any given time.

Eligibility

Eligibility for housing is based on the following priority sequence. Priority 1: Key and Essential accompanied or unaccompanied personnel. Priority 2: Accompanied military personnel. Priority 3: Accompanied military personnel assigned and attached for duty within 50 miles radius of the installations. Priority 4: Unaccompanied family members of military personnel. Priority 5: Unaccompanied military personnel (married or single). Priority 6: Retired Military personnel and spouses or widowed spouses of retired military personnel. Priority 7: DoD and Federal Agency Civilians. Priority 8: DoD Contractors. Priority 9: Non-Military, non DoD, or non-Federal Agency personnel (general public).

All service members who have command sponsorship for their families are authorized Government quarters. Factors influencing waiting time are time of year (quarters turnover is usually much faster during the summer months), rank and the number of bedrooms required (the size of your family). You could have no waiting at all, or you may wait as long as 14 months.

Application Procedures

Homes can not be offered until military personnel sign-in to Hawaii, however, an on-line application can be filled out at the Army Hawaii Community Homes website. A leasing consultant will follow up with the applicant after the application is received. Advanced Applications are welcome with orders and amended orders forwarded via website email or fax to respective Regional Offices. Contact information below.

Applicants can also apply in person or via phone by contacting the North Regional Office (Schofield Barracks, Wheeler Army Air Field, Helemano Military Reservation) at 808-275-3700 or 808-275-3729 for South Regional Office (Fort Shafter, Tripler Army Medical Center, Aliamanu Military Reservation, Red Hill) at 808-275-3800 or 808-842-7506.
